What Is ABS Plastic

Mar 08, 2021

ABS resin is one of the five major synthetic resins. It has excellent impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical properties. It also has the characteristics of easy processing, stable product dimensions, and good surface gloss. It is easy to paint , Coloring, it can also be used for secondary processing such as surface metal spraying, electroplating, welding, hot pressing and bonding. It is widely used in machinery, automobiles, electronic appliances, instrumentation, textiles and construction and other industrial fields. Wide range of thermoplastic engineering plastics.

The composition structure of ABS is acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, which is a terpolymer composed of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. The English name is Acrylonitrilr-butadiene-styenecolymer, or ABS for short. ABS is usually a light yellow or milky white granular amorphous resin. ABS is one of the widely used non-universal plastics.

The structure of ABS resin includes graft copolymers with elastomer as the main chain and graft copolymers with hard ABS resin as the main chain; or a mixture of rubber elastomer and hard AS resin. In this way, different structures show different properties, elastomers show the toughness of rubber, and hard AS resins show rigidity, and several varieties such as high impact type, medium impact type, general impact type and special impact type are available. Specifically, as the content of rubber component B (usually 5-30%) increases, the elasticity and impact resistance of the resin will increase; but the tensile strength, fluidity, and weather resistance will decrease. As the content of the resin component AS (generally 70-95%) increases, the surface gloss and mechanical strength can be improved. Weather resistance. Heat resistance. Corrosion resistance, electrical properties, processing properties, etc. are better, but impact strength, etc., will be reduced. The ratio of A and B in the resin component is 30~35%/80~65% respectively.

Plastic ABS resin is a polymer with a large output and a wide range of applications. It organically unifies the various properties of PB, PAN, and PS, and has excellent mechanical properties of toughness, rigidity, and rigidity. ABS is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. A stands for acrylonitrile, B stands for butadiene, and S stands for styrene. After actual use, it was found that: ABS plastic pipes are not resistant to sulfuric acid corrosion, and smashed and cracked when encountered with sulfuric acid.

Because of its three compositions, it gives it good performance; Acrylonitrile gives ABS resin chemical stability, oil resistance, certain stiffness and hardness; Butadiene improves its toughness, impact and cold resistance; Styrene gives it good dielectric properties and exhibits good processability.

Most ABS is non-toxic and impervious to water, but slightly permeable to water vapor, and has low water absorption. The water absorption rate of room temperature immersion does not exceed 1% for one year and the physical properties do not change. The surface of ABS resin products can be polished, and highly glossy products can be obtained.

ABS has excellent comprehensive physical and mechanical properties, and good low-temperature impact resistance. Dimensional stability. Electrical properties, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, dyeability, finished product processing and mechanical processing are better. ABS resin is resistant to water, inorganic salts, alkalis and acids. It is insoluble in most alcohols and hydrocarbon solvents, but easily soluble in aldehydes, ketones, esters and some chlorinated hydrocarbons. ABS resin has a low heat distortion temperature and is flammable and has poor weather resistance. The melting temperature is 217~237℃, and the thermal decomposition temperature is above 250℃.
